These sweet spiced baked apples make for the perfect simple dessert.
4 large Honeycrisp apples
¼ cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
⅛ teaspoon nutmeg
¼ cup chopped walnuts
2 tablespoons butter
½ cup boiling water
vanilla ice cream
Preheat the oven to 375 F.
Place the apples on a cutting board and using an apple corer tool, push in around the stem. Twist the tool and pull it out. Try and not cut all the way through so that there is a little bit of apple left on the bottom.
In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and walnuts. Spoon some of the mixture into the hole area of each apple. Put ½ tablespoon of butter on top of each apple.
Add the boiling water to the bottom of the baking dish and bake the apples for 30 minutes. You’ll know that the apples are done when they’re fork-tender but still have a bit of firmness to them.
Serve the spiced apples right away, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.
